Baghdad’s Neutron Bomb and America’s Nuclear Obama
April 9, 2011 -- Few people have heard of the Battle of Baghdad, which ended eight years ago today, let alone its cover-up. They might remember Iraq's information minister, Mohammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, warning of a surprise awaiting invading U.S. troops if they attacked Saddam International Airport. Later, al-Sahhaf claimed that the Iraqi Republican Guard had slaughtered U.S. troops, and was in control of the entire facility. His claims were mostly true, but were effectively countered by a U.S. military-media campaign of evasions and distortions that switched the subject from the airport action to Private Jessica Lynch, while ridiculing al-Sahhaf as Baghdad Bob.
Back to The Streets This Weekend for Peace and Justice
On April 9th in NYC and 10th in San Francisco, human rights, civil rights, and workers rights leaders and advocates - religious and secular - Jewish, Muslim, Christian, humanist - are linking arms in solidarity and common commitment with antiwar activists to take to the streets in the face of what Dr. King once called an “unfolding conundrum”.

Peace – Possible but difficult
Groups and organizations that promote peace (meaning absence of warfare) between nations have been uniformly unsuccessful in their efforts. To date – not once has any organized group or organization that promotes peace prevented warfare? Please correct me if I am in error? I know some so-called Peace Groups point to their immense efforts during issues including the Vietnam War and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Peace Groups did nothing to prevent past and current wars. They have a consistent record of failure. Chanting, dancing in the streets, demonstrations, silly clothing, singing and generally acting like fools entertains our Nation’s enemies but does nothing to prevent war.
Pursuing Peace in Afghanistan
Last week, General Petraeus testified before Congress that the war in Afghanistan is making progress. While Petraeus may believe his comments, the situation on the ground contradicts his statements. Afghanistan is a country that is overwhelmed by decades of war filled with foreign military forces, armed opposition groups, and a struggling government. Since 2001, there is general consensus that American led ISAF has not resulted in progress for Afghanistan.

As you know, President Obama delivering his second State of the Union address on Wednesday, January 27 , 2010. With the vast majority of Americans (the electorate) not having a loved one in the military thus not committed to the wars, it was no surprise that Obama's message focused on domestic priorities, and he only reiterated and defended his policy decisions on Iraq and Afghanistan, including the most recent surge of 30,000 troops in November, 2009.

Veterans and military families speak out
We are people who had little to no opportunity to get a college education. We are people who wanted to take our children to the doctor without going bankrupt. We are people who wanted to avoid joining the masses of unemployed and underpaid. Many of us believed the lifetime of indoctrination that told us the U.S. military protects our families here at home, and helps the poor and oppressed abroad.
