It's March 22nd. The Benghazi Brigade defected a month ago. Initial reports were of 8000 troops, of whom 3000 were Special Forces. In the ensuing weeks there were a few reports about 'training', which one would assume to mean the volunteer rebels. We have also seen a few video clips of young troops doing a bit of drilling and weapons training.

Muammar Gaddafi went on radio few days ago,threatening no mercy for the pro-democracy residence of Benghazi . In the last few days, Muammar and his son Seif El-Islam feel energized again after making some gains on the grounds during the last 10 days. Thanks to President Sarkozy and France, the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for a “No Fly Zone” and taking a measures to protect the lives of civilians in Libya. Though the Obama Administration was too keen on the no fly zone, for reasons that became clear it took a back seat, with a wait and see attitude, until Gaddafi was able to win the battle against his own people with ready and final assault on the city of Benghazi. France persistence finally paid off, finally the Obama Administration was allowed to vote on the USSC resolution 1973. It is too late for all those killed and murdered by Gaddafi, and the hope that his days as leader of Libya are numbered.

Libya with its huge reserve and flow of vital oil to Europe & the United States could not and should not be left alone in the hands of some maniac and political outcast like Gaddafi to be drifted into some civil war that only god knows when it will come to an end. This is unacceptable under any circumstances, be it a popular uprising or not so popular, the crucial thing is that this no-fly zone must stop this no-flow of oil from Libya to Europe and USA, a situation that if kept going could drag a newly recovered western economy back to recession.

"The resolution establishes "a ban on all flights in the airspace of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in order to help protect civilians." It also authorizes UN member states to take "all necessary measures ... to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi, while excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory."

Sons are treasured. Moms and Dads heap love, affection, money, devotion, property, the perfect girl for them, new cars, education and any conceivable advantage they can provide their sons with. Mom and Dad do not want their sons at war. Most American Moms and Dads however understand the world is not a nice place, that real peace is not attainable and that men must be prepared to defend their loved ones and country. Many Moms have a special mother – son relationship, time honored and very special. I know tough Soldiers - real men that proudly proclaim “Yeah, I’m a moma’s boy, I love my moma!”
