More Than 32,800 Veterans Hired During First Half of FY2010
Today, the President’s Interagency Council on Veterans Employment was briefed by U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director John Berry, Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Scott Gould, and Department of Labor's Assistant Secretary for Veteran’s Employment and Training, Ray Jefferson, to inform them that thousands more veterans have been hired by federal agencies since last November when President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13518, Employment of Veterans in the Federal Government, and established the Veterans Employment Initiative. Also at the briefing, the council adopted a more aggressive new benchmark for veteran hiring among federal agencies.
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation Offers Rewarding Employment Opportunities
The Foundation was established by six women veterans and State Women Veterans Coordinators to expand their scope of work within the veteran’s community. The Foundation is operated on donations from the public and holds various fund raiser activities throughout the year dedicated to raising money for their cause.
New Law Gives Huge Tax Breaks to Companies who Hire Veterans
President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law the $17.5 billion Hiring Incentive to Restore Employment Act (the “HIRE Act”), comprising a payroll tax holiday for businesses that hire unemployed workers, an income tax credit of $1,000 for businesses that retain these employees and an extension of highways project financing. The bill was passed in the Senate last month and the House earlier in March, with voting largely along partisan lines.
