Peace in Our Time?

“Hell not we won’t go” or “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh, the NLF* is gonna win”, or “bring our boys home now!” Protestors carrying flags of the Communist enemy down American streets condemning the baby killers – The United States sent to defend South Vietnam against Communist Aggression. Supporters of the Communist war machine in South Vietnam (in America) including [Hanoi] Jane Fonda and [Senator] John Kerry launched a loosely coordinated anti-war (and anti-American) program of condemnation – in part – focused on the men that fought in Vietnam. We were and are (those of us still alive) the baby killers, imperialist. mindless, indoctrinated military robots of corporate America. Yes, it was the young men from the families of crane operators, automotive workers, farmers, grocers, office workers, shop keepers, migrant workers, immigrants, teachers and different occupations people occupy to make a living that went to South East Asia to kill babies and rape the land. The Solider, Sailor, Marine, Airman and Coastguardsman were (and still are among many on the left) labeled in a foul and dishonorable manner. America sent us to war and turned its back on us. The American left continues despicable and dishonorable treatment directed towards our Military! (More to follow!)
Vietnam Vets [most of us – not all] remain very loyal Americans who still believe our mission was honorable and necessary. (Leftist will have a field day with the previous sentence.) We are very concerned that the current generation of Veterans and those from the first Gulf War will be sent down the same rock strewn road we have been down.
Please note the following: (from How North Vietnam Won The War (WSJ ^ | August 3, 1995 | Stephen Young)
“The following is an excerpt from a 1995 interview with Bui Tin, who served on the general staff of North Vietnam’s army. He received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. He later became editor of the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of Vietnam. He now lives in Paris.
Question: How did Hanoi intend to defeat the Americans?
Answer: By fighting a long war which would break their will to help South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh said, “We don’t need to win military victories, we only need to hit them until they give up and get out.”
Consider too:
“Q: Was the American antiwar movement important to Hanoi’s victory?
A: It was essential to our strategy. Support of the war from our rear was completely secure while the American rear was vulnerable. Every day our leadership would listen to world news over the radio at 9 a.m. to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement. Visits to Hanoi by people like Jane Fonda, and former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and ministers gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses. We were elated when Jane Fonda, wearing a red Vietnamese dress, said at a press conference that she was ashamed of American actions in the war and that she would struggle along with us.
Q. Did the Politburo pay attention to these visits?
A: Keenly. “ (ibid.)
Consider too:
Q: What was the purpose of the 1968 Tet Offensive?
A: To relieve the pressure Gen. Westmoreland was putting on us in late 1966 and 1967 and to weaken American resolve during a presidential election year. (loc sit)
Mr. Young’s interview with Mr. Tin is a classic examination of so called good intentions resulting in horrible consequences. The anti-Military and anti-American left directly enabled a Communist Victory in South Vietnam. They directly assisted the enemy American Forces will facing in the field – and they got away with it. Yes folks, the anti-war left directly contributed (with full knowledge for some of them – in my view) to the KIA’s, MIA’s and WIA’s from the Vietnam War!
Consider the current antics of anti-war groups in America.
Vietnam Veterans Against The War:
Last July (2010) the VVAW (much despised by many Vietnam combat Vets) had a convention somewhere in Texas and wound up outside Fort Hood – chanting and carrying signs – “The evening before the convention there was a protest outside the gate at Fort Hood.” (The Veteran, online) also (singing and dancing – I bet the 60 year old plus wanna be hippies were quite a site dressed up in their mandatory leftist costumes.) The VVAW website abounds with anti-war and anti-American clatter. Check it out folks and have the opportunity to discover how evil us folks who are Americans are!
These old wanna be hippies (I’m sure there are one or two real Vietnam Vets in the group) are, 40 years after the fact still out condemning this great nation that gives them the right to run their collective mouths. Consider the younger version of these people!
Not to be out done by the old guys, “Iraq Veterans Against The War” held a convention too. Same place and time as the old guys. Amid much chanting and leftist merry making (the left does like to dance and sing – only thing missing was a maypole) the leftist IVAW “…said they support troops when they disobey their officers – supporting no war but the class war.” (Amanda Kim Stairrett, Protestors rally near post. Killeen Daily Herald – July – 2010)
The Fort Hood protest by the IVAW claimed a military deserter discharged from the United States Army claiming to have been in the Signal Corp. (ibid.)
The self-proclaimed deserter referenced above and the IVAW are reportedly urging members of the American Military to refuse the orders of their officers have no concern for serving soldiers. Consider:
Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) ART. 92. FAILURE TO OBEY ORDER OR REGULATION
Any person subject to this chapter who–
1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation;
(2) having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by any member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or
(3) is derelict in the performance of his duties;
shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
Desertion includes:
UINIFORM CODE of MILIATARY JUSTICE (UCMJ) ART. 85. DESETION
a) Any member of the armed forces who–
(1) without authority goes or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to remain away therefrom permanently;
(2) quits his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to avoid hazardous duty or to shirk important service; or
(3) without being regularly separated from one of the armed forces enlists or accepts an appointment in the same or another on of the armed forces without fully disclosing the fact that he has not been regularly separated, or enters any foreign armed service except when authorized by the United States;
is guilty of desertion.
Desertion is a despicable and cowardly act within the Profession of Arms. Refusal to obey lawful orders is not tolerated within a military organization. Very simple to understand and be acceptable by decent, loyal members of the Profession of Arms.
(I know, I know, who am I to run my mouth? Answer: I’m the guy who stuck his rifle over the paddy dike and fired it and kept his head down. Yeah, I know it was cowardly.)
I don’t know how many wanna be heroes are included in the IVAW. The Vietnam War has many wanna be heroes. (Note: I am not nor have ever been a war hero, hero in public service or displayed bravery. See paddy dike comment above. My only claim is that I have at least never run away when called for service.) Consider:
“Vietnam veterans suffer from higher than normal rates of drug abuse, homelessness and failed marriages. The image of the Vietnam veteran is not the reality that we know, that of the successful businessman or member of the community. Rather it is that of the scruffy bearded homeless man in camo fatigues adorned with numerous unit pins and assorted division patches crying and leaning against the granite at the Vietnam memorial. Stolen Valor sets out to correct that image. (Stolen Valor, How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of its Heroes and History, by B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley)”
Looks like there is a lotta wanna be heroes here in the good ole USA! Wonder how many are in the VVAW or the newer version in IVAW?
Urging members of the Military to run away (desert) and disobey lawful orders are the actions of organizations that despise our country, the Military and its institutions. These people might drive a wounded Vet to a VA medical appointment. Get some of the guys into homeless shelters from out under the bridges they live under, volunteer at a VA Hospital, help the Vets with state and federal bureaucracies, and do something constructive for a change.
Circa 1966 a United States Marine Corps Drill Instructor addressing the shiny new Platoon 1042 at MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego – California**) – “You’re here for one reason – to become a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL KILLER”
The Sergeant was (and is to this day) correct. The 18, 19, 20 and 21 year old guys were at MCRD to be changed, transformed from young Americans into killing machines. The Marine Corps did its work well. The young men became disciplined indoctrinated obedient killers that functioned within a military framework. They followed their NCO’s and Officers into combat and did their duty. All too often the country they served has universally condemned them. The sons of many of these Veterans went on to Military Service in the First Gulf War and the current War on Terror. The beginnings of condemnation of the current American Warrior has begun. How many on the left will demean them? The VVAW and IVAW have already begun and they have many allies.
Peace in our time? No! Not going to happen, no way, not now, not ever! Unfortunately warfare is a very important component of life on planet earth. Human kind has never been inclined to peacefully coexist with each other.
In closing, the current war on terror is going to continue until the early or mid 2030’s (source withheld). There are going to many more young Americans entering the Military. How many chants, songs, protests and other silly but harmful antics will these brave young Americans have to tolerate?
The words of a young, competent squared away Infantry Sergeant, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, circa 2007: “If you don’t support our mission, you don’t support us.”

** The United States Marine Corp has an additional basic training site at Paris Island South Carolina. It is nowhere near as difficult as MCRD. It has a mild climate and is for young guys and girls that need pogey bait six times a day and a bottle of milk provided by their Drill Instructors at sleepy time. Us Hollywood Marines are the true, macho-ype of Warrior. Our only drawback is that we wear sunglasses on the time.
Dale R. Suiter served in the United States Marine Corps June 1966 – February – 1970. He served with Ammo Company First FSR, 2nd CAG Q-6 and Q-3, H&S 81’s 3/9 and 1/3. His service “On the Rock” was with Ordanance Schools, Camp Hansen. Following the Marine Corp, he completed a career in public service – prison and jail operations. In addition, he completed a career as a reserve officer with the Michigan Army National Guard. His two sons and two sons-in-law are veterans of the war on terror. The family continues in service to the United States of America.
