Veterans valuable addition to work force

American veterans are coming home and looking for jobs. Hire them! They have already been working to protect you. You should put them to work as soon as possible. Why? Vets have the work ethic, training and skills that can benefit your business.

Every vet I meet, I am so impressed. I watch them, the way they carry themselves, they way they present themselves even when they are casual, and the way they look you square in the eye. I think the best tribute we can give our vets is to make sure they have jobs. Hire them and give them a chance to help you and your company.

     

Haven’t our vets already shown that they are committed to their cause? They’ve signed up for an experience that could take them anywhere, potentially in harm’s way, with their head held high. It’s obvious that they will be faithful, committed staff.

They have proved that they learn fast. If you have ever talked to anyone who has been to boot camp, learning is fast and intense. They have been expected to learn fast, efficiently and remember their instructions. They can’t daydream and expect someone to remind them what to do. They have to have total recall — excellent employee abilities.

Leadership is one area that they respect. Leading by example as well as taking direction is part of their daily routine. They are taught that delegation is key to success and have had the wonderful experience watching their leaders inspire and direct hands on. They are coached in teamwork. They need to know the team well and how the team relates to each other. They know that each member of the team has a responsibility.

Vets have appreciation and respect for procedures. They know that there is a reason things are done this way, and work to meet the goal of the organization or team.

They have seen different techniques used around the world that may benefit you. They have worked with people from all backgrounds and groups and learned to work effectively and efficiently with anyone.

They have worked under pressure with little resources in some cases. They have learned how to work out problems or situations using the resources available.

Some have security clearances which certainly shows they have excellent backgrounds and integrity. They know what it means to do a honest day’s work. They are used to meeting deadlines, working together and achieving a goal.

Every vet I meet, I am so impressed. I watch them, the way they carry themselves, they way they present themselves even when they are casual, and the way they look you square in the eye. I think the best tribute we can give our vets is to make sure they have jobs. Hire them and give them a chance to help you and your company. I have several who work for me, and each one is a jewel. They show up when asked. They give 100 percent or more. They never say no or why. They complete all their tasks quickly and efficiently. In my opinion, vet stands for very excellent team player. Add a vet to your team!
