VA – Helps a Lot of Vets; Many VA People Care

I often paint a negative view of the VA. People are universally O.K. though. An older Vet recently took his serverly wounded son to a VA Hospital. The young guy doesn’t drive and has no consistent memory and is easily confused. There were appointments at mulitiple buildings. Very helpful, kind VA employees got the two of them to where they had to be. Both men got through the day. VA people were uniformly kind and helpful within the limit of their area of expertise.

The young guy and his Dad met Vets from WWII, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam, Desert Strom and the current war on Terror and Vets from years between our numerous wars.

Yes, the VA is confusing, complex, complicated and frustrating as an institution. Many of the people within the VA system do however really care about Vets.

Rarely, when a Vet gets through on the phone system and talks to a real person – are they treated badly. On the phone – most often – the VA people are professional and polite.

The old guy and his son – well – the VA folks got them through the day. The good people at the VA even reminded them to take their forms and the son’s medicine.

Our country with all its many issues and concerns does care for the military, Vets and their families. VA has asked for $125 Billion to care for Vets in 2011. This is a huge committment from Americans to the naiton’s Vets.

Have a good day Vets & Families.
