Dan Arant Receives Award for Work at The Wall

On Saturday, Sept. 11, Annapolis, Md. resident Dan Arant will be honored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund with the Libby Hatch Volunteer Recognition Award for his 17 years of service at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Arant, a Vietnam veteran who served as a Navy lieutenant in-country from 1967-68, helps visitors find names and make name rubbings, answers questions and listens as veterans and family members tell their stories. In addition, he has taken roughly 6,500 photos at The Wall, which have been used in a variety of publications. Using his extensive library of roughly 925 books related to the Vietnam War, Arant sometimes gives talks at the Memorial on various aspects of the war. He is planning one such talk for November 2010 on the 45th anniversary of the Ia Drang Valley campaign.
