HAMPTON— From haircuts to food to disability claims, roughly 150 veterans received help Saturday during an event sponsored by the Hampton VA Medical Center and the Military Affairs Committee in Hampton.
The homeless veterans “stand down,” held at Y.H. Thomas Community Center, brought together dozens of volunteers to help former service members. Several local business also contibuted time and supplies.
The event attracted not only the traditional homeless — those who truly have no roof over their head — but veterans who are staying with friends, family or in a hotel.
