The fourth annual “Paychecks for Patriots” took place at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. It is part of a statewide initiative helping veterans transition back into civilian life.
“I started in 1995 in the infantry, worked my way all the way up to E7 (sergeant) and I got out three weeks ago,” said Christopher Sims, veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Sims served 20 years. Of those years, nine were spent in deployment and five were in combat. Now, he’s looking for a job close to home.
“At this point in my life, I want to be able to go home and kiss my kids every night,” said Sims.
Paychecks for Patriots brings in dozens of local businesses eager to hire heroes.
