USE Credit Union is a different kind of financial institution. The Union provides all the services you might expect from a bank. At USE Credit Union you will find members who value being treated like they own the place (because they do). USE is a modern-day financial cooperative whose members – mostly California university and state employees – have come together to enjoy a more rewarding experience. USE place’s people before profit and offer financial solutions for the way their members live including anytime, anywhere access…flexible account options…fair rates…quality service…smart investments and advice…and more.
Today, they serve more than 50,000 members and partner with community businesses to help individuals meet their financial goals and build personal wealth, which strengthens their community. Membership is open to California’s academic community, including the faculty, staff, students and alumni at colleges and universities within the University of California and California State University system.
USE Credit Union was established in 1936 as California State Credit Union #17, with the primary goal of helping employees of the San Diego branch of the Division of Highways. In the 1970s, the Credit Union became known as University & State Employees Credit Union, reflecting USE’s expanded legacy of serving the financial needs of university and state employees. And in 1999, when their charter expanded again to include members of the community at large, we began using the shortened “USE” acronym in most of their business dealings. Today, USE Credit Union (headquartered in San Diego, California) is among the top 50 in asset size of more than 400 credit unions in the state.
