Veterans ranging from those who served in the Iraq War to World War II gathered at Richard Childress Racing on Wednesday to hear information about the resources available through the recently created N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Retired Maj. Gen. Cornell Wilson Jr. spoke at the monthly meeting of the Davidson County Veterans Coffee about the purpose of the department and the variety of programs available to assist veterans.
In October 2015, Gov. Pat McCrory named Wilson as the secretary of the new Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The department focuses on protecting North Carolina’s military installations, working with the communities around military bases, helping military families and veterans receive the support and services they need and helping connect veterans with jobs.
