Pranked: Press TV and Russia Today Burned on “Martial Law”

Today Russia Today and Press TV joined the ranks of blogger radio pundits in an effort to send thousands of mentally challenged Americans into their storm cellars, heads wrapped in cooking foil, hiding from black helicopters, “Fetzer” energy rays and impending martial law. As American humorist Jim W. Dean so often says, “You just can’t make this stuff up.”

Background

This week, an Army spokesman addressed a terrified crowd in Texas, hoax victims of “yellow journalism.” Today, both Press TV and Russia Today published falsified quotes from that video taped meeting that they seem never to have watched.

Both press organizations falsely claim the US Army said it was training for martial law. They published this with no sources other than reading it off blogger sites.

From today’s Press TV:

PressTV-Texas troops to observe military drills

Army Special Operation Command spokesman Mark Lastoria, said earlier this week, that the exercises would help trains soldiers in “covert warfare tactics and martial law.

The text below is from the Terry Hagerty of the Bastrop Texas News:

Some other questions or comments included: “Is this (preparation) for World War III?” and “What would you do if ordered to confiscate (citizens’) guns by the U.S. government?” Lastoria answered a simple “No” to the first question, and that confiscating guns was not part of the exercise. “We’re not doing any type of law enforcement,” he added.

When Lastoria was asked if at “any point” martial law (temporary military rule imposed upon a civilian population) would be declared, he responded, “No – this has nothing to do with Martial Law.”

Earlier today, Press TV in an interview with a former college professor and “conspiracy kook” aired statements citing not only martial law but the closure of the US borders with both Canada and Mexico. Traffic on both borders is much as usual, perhaps because it is difficult to receive Press TV and nobody, including US Customs officials, knew of the border closure.

A good experiment would be to Google “Lastoria Martial Law” and see how many liars are out there. Yes, to thousands of internet pundits and activist “No – this has nothing to do with Martial Law” means “covert warfare tactics and martial law.”

Problem is, of course, they just make it all up. Is a liar still a liar when they lie out of agenda driven feigned incompetence?

Make a list.
