From baseball to basketball down to hockey, the list of the most popular sport franchises follow.
Baseball
One of the most popular American franchises, the Yankees were founded in 1903 as the New York Highlanders which were officially renamed Yankees in 1913. This successful franchise has won 18 division titles, 40 AL pennants, and 27 World Series championships. Their logo is the interlocking NY and it can be seen on their caps, jerseys and on the team’s batting helmets. The team colours are navy blue, white and grey. Their official song is called “Here Come the Yankees”. Yankee players who are the part of the Hall of Fame are Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers
Another two highly influential baseball franchises are the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers were established in 1961 and in 1883 respectively.
The sports uniform of the Angels is scarlet red, navy blue and white silver. The current uniform of the Dodgers is dodger blue and white. Dodger Stadium has been a home ballpark of the Dodgers since 1962. The Dodgers stadium seating chart has the capacity of 5600 people and this ballpark is the third-oldest in Major League Baseball. The Angels are known for its mantra “Win One for the Cowboy”.
Basketball
The Los Angeles Lakers
This professional basketball team established in 1947 is one of the most successful teams of the NBA. The Lakers has won 16 NBA championships so far. Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant helped the Lakers win three straight NBA titles. The team colours are gold, purple and white. Purple uniforms are used for road games and gold uniforms are used for home games. There are 21 Lakers players in the Hall of Fame.
The Boston Celtics
One of the most famous rivals of the Lakers is the Boston Celtics. The team colours of their jerseys, green, gold, brown, black and white reflect the colours of their logo which is Lucky the Leprechaun. The Boston Celtics has won 17 NBA championships. The team is known for wearing black snickers. This team was the only team to wear warm-up jackets with the player names on the back.
The Sacramento Kings
This professional basketball team is the oldest team in the NBA. It was founded in 1923. The team colours are purple, silver, white and black. Their rivalry with the Lakers is one of the most competitive ones known for Vlade Divac vs. Shaquille O’Neal match-ups. Their mascot is Slamson the Lion since 1997.
Hockey
The New York Rangers
The New York Rangers were established in 1926 and they are one of the oldest ice hockey franchises. Being the member of the National Hockey League, they were the first to win the Stanley cup. So far, they have won the Stanley cup four times. The colours of their sports uniforms are blue, red and white. Players inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame are Glenn Anderson, Neil Colville, Babe Pratt, Brendan Shanahan, Marcel Dionne and many others.
The Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings have won the most of Stanley cup championships, 11 of them, to be precise. Their team colours are red and white. Their sports uniforms did not undergo many changes since 1930. They varied between red or white base and red or white piping. This franchise is legendary for its “Legend of the Octopus”. This is a sports tradition in which an octopus is thrown on the ice during playoff games. Some of the honoured players of this team are Alec Connell, Frank Foyston, Frank Fredrickson, George Hay and Duke Keats.
The Boston Bruins
Founded in 1924, The Boston Bruins has won six Stanley cups. They are known for the sports uniforms in black, gold and white colour. In addition, they are famous for its unofficial theme song known as “Nutty”, which is the instrumental rock version of the overture from the Nutcracker. Some of the Hall of Fame players are Sprague Cleghorn, Fernie Flaman, Jean Ratelle and Raymond Bourque. They are awarded Elizabeth C. Dufresne Trophy, Eddie Shore Award and Seventh Player Award.
