Montgomery County judges move to establish veterans court

The Montgomery County Board of Judges is moving forward with a proposal to establish a veterans treatment court, which would allow veterans with pending criminal cases the option of joining a highly structured outpatient treatment program.
County Court-at-Law 2 Judge Claudia Laird wrote the proposal to include a four-phase, individualized program designed to be completed through the Veterans Administration in a minimum of 12 months.
Laird said the program’s objective would be to assist veterans and their families as integral and productive members of the community through a collaborative effort, and to restore their dignity after serving the country in combat.
Montgomery County commissioners could vote on the measure March 24.
