Several drones were detected near nuclear military site of L’Ile Longue in Brest harbor, during recent days, revealed the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic on Wednesday. These flights, however, would not present a threat to basic safety.
After flying over the Elysee last week and that of the Nogent-sur-Seine early January , here is a new UAV deal. The site of L’Ile-Longue, on the Crozon Peninsula, home to four French nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) representing much of the French deterrent. The presence of these drones above the base in recent days has been detected by radar and site protection teams. “These detections were immediately treated by mobilizing resources and response teams provided for in this case,” said the maritime prefecture.
The maritime prefecture said that Long Island-P112 is in the area of overflight prohibited without permission. “Drones flying over military installations is the subject of legal proceedings to determine the nature and origin of the overflight and to prosecute those responsible, given the illegal nature of these activities,” says the Navy in a statement.
Many nuclear power plants flown by drones
Many drone overflights near nuclear sites have been observed in recent months in France, whose authors were not identified. On October 5, a first overview was detected above the central deconstruction Creys-Malville (Isère). Then, EDF recognized overflights above the central Gravelines (North), Cattenom (Moselle), Blaye (Gironde), Bugey (Ain) Chooz (Ardennes) and Nogent-sur-Seine (Aube) the week of October 13 to 20. October 31 is the Flamanville nuclear power plant that had been flown, then those of Penly (Seine-Maritime), Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux (Loir-et-Cher), Dampierre-en-Burly (Loiret) and Fessenheim (Haut-Rhin). On 14 November, it was the turn of the La Hague nuclear reprocessing site.
