Veterans on Wall StreetTM Announces Keynote Speakers for Third Annual Conference
 
NEW YORK — Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS), a consortium of major banks including Citi, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, is pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the third annual Veteran Employment Symposium and Resource Fair on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Goldman Sachs’ headquarters in New York City.
This year’s conference will bring together corporate representatives across various industries, transitioning service members and their families, military and government leaders, veterans support organizations and others who have a shared interest in veterans’ employment issues. The annual conference aims to elevate awareness of the value of veterans in the workforce, provide transitioning skills workshops to service members and their families, and to share best practices regarding veteran recruitment among institutions. Featured speakers and panel participants include:
 
  • General Peter Pace, U.S. Marine Corps, (Ret); 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Pace was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2005 to 2007, serving as the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council.  Prior to becoming Chairman, General Pace served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and is the first Marine to have served in either of these positions.
  • Bob Woodruff, ABC News Correspondent; Co-founder, Bob Woodruff Foundation. Mr. Woodruff joined ABC News in 1996 and has covered major stories throughout the country and around the world for the network. He was named co-anchor of ABC’s “World News Tonight” in December 2005. In January 2006, while reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces, Mr. Woodruff was seriously injured by a roadside bomb. In February 2007, just 13 months after being wounded, he returned to ABC News with “To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports,” an hour-long, primetime documentary chronicled his traumatic brain injury (TBI), his painstaking recovery, and the plight of thousands of service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with similar injuries
  • Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen Jr., U.S. Army, Superintendent, U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Lieutenant General Caslen became the 59th Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in July 2013. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq.
  • Dr. Tommy Sowers, Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Sowers directs departmental communications and oversees programs involving intergovernmental relations including homeless Veterans, consumer affairs, rehabilitative special events, VA’s Office for Tribal Governments, and the VA Outreach Office. He previously served as senior advisor to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and in 2010 he was a candidate for U.S. Representative in Missouri’s 8th congressional district.
  • John SykesClear Channel, President of Entertainment Enterprises.  John Sykes has been a leader in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and has created a number of engaging and recognizable television brands and events that have reached audiences around the globe, including Clear Channel’s annual iHeartRadio Music Festival.  As President of VH1 he created the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which has raised over $45 million to rebuild music education programs in public schools across America, and at Clear Channel John recently created “iHeartRadio’s Show Your Stripes,” the largest public service campaign in Clear Channel’s history, investing over $100 million in dedicated media time to help U.S. military veterans to find jobs after they return home.  Since June, the campaign has generated over 4.4 billion media impressions and helped over 100,000 veterans successfully apply for employment with thousands of employers through the program’s website showyourstripes.org.
  • Brigadier General George H. Walls Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Ret); Member, Board of Directors, PNC Financial Services Group. Brigadier General Walls served on active duty for over 28 years in the U.S.  Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Brigadier General in 1993. From 2001 to 2004, he served as the Chief Deputy Auditor for the State of North Carolina. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for PNC Financial Services Group.
The conference agenda will be split into two half-day sessions focused on transitioning veterans and the corporate community, respectively. Key details are as follows:

Agenda: The half-day morning symposium is an opportunity for transitioning veterans to learn about career transition resources and how to best position themselves for success. General Walls and General Caslen will serve as the keynote speakers followed by a lineup of senior employment professionals who will share their perspectives on veteran transition and career management. There will also be a resource fair during the morning session, which will provide veteran attendees with information about innovative programs and organizations focused on the veteran community.

Event VOWS Veteran Employment Symposium – Corporate Track

Location: Goldman Sachs Conference Center, 200 West Street, New York, NY 10282
Agenda: The afternoon session is designed to convene members of the corporate community to address the most critical issues related to the hiring and integration of veterans into the civilian workforce. General Pace will open the conference and a lineup of senior military and business leaders will share their perspectives on veterans in the workplace. Mr. Woodruff will close the event.
