Team 4Mil, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization helps wounded veterans rehabilitate from their injuries through cycling, mentoring and camaraderie. As a culmination of each year’s efforts, a team(s) or individual(s) compete in the annual Race Across America (RAAM)
For 2013, Team 4Mil has 2 team efforts entered. The first is an 8 man all combat wounded team. We have partnered with Walter Reed Medical Center and Team Red White and Blue to enter a team that will be an inspiration to us all. We have 5 hand cyclists competing with 3 upright cyclists who are ready to race their hearts out to beat the time cuts and finish strong ahead of as many other teams as possible.
The second team is another 8 man team comprised of 4 Team 4Mil racers and 4 British racers on an Allied Forces team. Their goal is to break the record and win the 8 man division. Their main objective doing this year’s RAAM is to raise awareness for combat wounded veterans from both countries. As well, the effort is meant to highlight the strong alliance between the U.S. and British military members and veterans.
For both teams, this is a non stop effort from start to finish. Each 8 man team is broken down into two 4 man groups. Each team of 4 will race in a rotating manner for 8-9 hours. The teams exchange where the off coming racers rest for the next 8-9 hours while the rested team does their shift. It takes a crew of approximately 15-20 volunteers to support each team and assure their safety day and night.
There are a variety of ways to follow each team from start to finish. The Team 4Mil website will have frequent updates and so will the Team 4Mil Facebook Page
The RAAM website will also have frequent updates. Our combat wounded team is named the Walter Reed Bethesda Cycling Team and the competitive team is the Allied Forces – Team 4Mil/Strategic Lions
Please DONATE today to help support wounded military members.
