ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Board voted five to zero Saturday to approve a state grant to train military veterans in the county and the City of Alexandria for jobs in the information technology field.
The $150,000 plan, called “IT Jobs for Veterans,” is expected to aid more than 50 veterans with job training, certification and job placement services as part of an 18-month program.
Upon completion of the program, the private IT company Acentia will be tasked with helping the veterans find employment in the high-tech industry, according to a news release from Arlington County.
The initiative is funded by Gov. Bob McDonnell’s Virginia Workforce Investment Act Rapid Response Assistance grant and the Virginia Community College System.
