Mr. Adams speaking with Jean Mullally, RN, Home Telehealth Care Coordinator

Mr. Clifford Adams is a legally blind Veteran who lives alone and has several serious medical conditions.  Living in his own home is very important to him.  He was spending hours managing his medications: filling pill boxes, calling for refills, and requesting re-orders on expired medicines.  He has been a patient of Home Telehealth Care Coordinator, Jean Mullally, RN, since May 2008.

Through the low-vision program, ScripTalk® became available and Jean thought this device would be a great help and worked with Mr. Adams to use it in his home.  The device is able to read his medicine labels to him and has made his medication management much easier.  Jean also sends Mr. Adams a copy of his medication list in large print.  Mr. Adams also has a Health Buddy® in his home which he answers daily to report his blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar readings.  Jean is alerted when his numbers are out of normal range, and she calls him to check on him and alert his physician, if necessary.  This technology has allowed Mr. Adams to avoid hospital admission on several occasions.

His many providers and pharmacy work as a team to improve his quality of life and to help him live on his own.  Jean comments that Mr. Adams is a truly friendly and inspiring person.  With the help of caring VA staff and Telehealth technologies, he is managing his complex medications and medical problems at home.
