[Gaza Palestine-Israel-USA] – On February 19, 2006, Gideon Levy wrote for HA’ARETZ:
“The team, headed by the prime minister’s advisor Dov Weissglas and including the Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, the director of the Shin Bet and senior generals and officials, convened for a discussion with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on ways to respond to the Hamas election victory.
“Everyone agreed on the need to impose an economic siege on the Palestinian Authority, and Weissglas, as usual, provided the punch line:
“It’s like an appointment with a dietician. The Palestinians will get a lot thinner, but won’t die,” the advisor joked, and the participants reportedly rolled with laughter.” [1]
It has been said that the day will come when those who laughed will laugh no more and those who have mourned will weep with joy; for the first will be last and the least will be first!
On March 9, 2011, Representatives of various Palestinian factions met in a Gaza hotel to discuss new ideas for achieving an internal reconciliation, but leaders of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah party did not attend.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum, “reiterated the necessity of ending the rift and gaining back the Palestinian unity.” [2]
Barhoum also stated that the factions’ leaders agreed to organize a popular rally on March 11, 2011 to manifest national unity to confront all the ongoing challenges, adding, “Only Palestinian flags will be waved. Friday’s rally will be the first step forward towards ending the current division,” and he welcomed popular effort from where ever Palestinians are until they get their freedom and independence. [Ibid]
Over 60% of the entire population of the Middle East is under 30, and the tech savvy activists in Tunisia and Egypt harnessed the power of social media- which is The Media of The Arab Revolution to get the word out.
They utilized Facebook and Twitter but they also went old school in organizing the tactics to topple repressive regimes that in 2010 were still thought to be invincible.
March 15, 2011 is the day all eyes should focus on Gaza Palestine.
Palestine: Demands for a Unified Nation set for March 15
We call on the governments of the West Bank and Gaza to respond to the legitimate demands of the people:
1 – The release all political detainees in the prisons of the PA and Hamas.
2 – The end of all forms of media campaigns against each others.
3 – The resignation of the governments of Haniyeh and Fayyad to re-build a government of national unity agreed by all Palestinian factions representing the Palestinian people.
4 – The restructuring of the Palestine Liberation Organization to contain all the Palestinian factions and get back to its initial aim: Palestine’s freedom.
5 – The announcement of the freeze of negotiations until the full compatibility between the various Palestinian factions on a political program.
6 – The end of all forms of security coordination with the Zionist enemy.
7 – The organization of presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously in the time chosen by all the factions.
There are 800,000 youth in Gaza younger than 16 years of age.
The youth of Gaza Palestine have planned a march set for March 15, 2011 in Gaza and throughout the West Bank to demand an End of the Occupation of their Homeland.
On March 10, 2011, The Institute for Middle East Understanding hosted the Press Briefing “Young Palestinian Activists Look to Follow Egypt and Tunisia to Forge a New Future”.
Lina Al-Sharif is a Palestinian in Gaza and a senior English Literature student at the Islamic University in Gaza, an active blogger and writer. She explained that Facebook and Twitter has been the method of disseminating information and “most all the people of Gaza know about this protest…The people organizing this have made it an event that may turn out as an international success.”
Fadi Quran is a West Bank Palestinian, the founder of an alternative energy startup and also works as a coordinator within various youth movements. He is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Human Rights and Constitutional Law, and graduated from Stanford University with degrees in Physics and International Relations. He noted that Facebook and Twitter are tools like “weapons” and that the Tunisian and Egyptian Revolutions have ignited the Gaza Palestinians who have now risen up from “the fatigue of despair to the buoyancy of hope!”
Fajr Harb is a West Bank Palestinian, the Assistant Director of The Carter Center Field Office in Ramallah and a member of al Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network. He commented that there will be “volume, creativity and unexpected surprises” come March 15, 2011.
March 15th may also just be the day that those who have mourned since 1948, will be able to laugh with joy that FREEDOM is near, for injustice is unsustainable and when it comes to the Middle East everything is very connected!
