Status Report on Gulf War Veterans and the VA Lacking Response to Gulf War Illness
Here to our Marines! Delta reunion. Also another interview of a Gulf War Veteran Suffering from after the war exposures. As I watch this, I see an individual that I wonder if he is getting physical care and Diagnostic work up! Not just the depression he speaks to but to the pain. I look at someone that we need to look further re cardiac would be one item I would be sure he is getting proactive screening. I would check any swelling, and lymph nodes, and gland enlargement. That Marine and all gulf war veterans deserve and have earned the most complete physical workup! I wonder if he has been referred to the War Related Illness Centers in DC, or Orange, NJ, or Palo Alto, Calif. I wonder if he is getting information about the new studies by Dr Meggs or Dr Klimas at Miami, VA. The VA has not been helpful at all in postings at hospitals and clinics about WRIIS centers and procedures for referrals, or VA funded research, and DOD CDMRP funded studies.
The outreach by the VA has been lackluster! Which is obvious with the lack of information on research and WRIIS in this interview.
Again the ill Gulf War Veterans are the ones doing the outreach and getting the word out, it is a shame they don’t even provide grants for outreach work nor rooms for veterans to use when attending VA RAC GWI meetings. Nor do they encourage interaction and sharing of important health care providers and research being done at annual type meeting for Gulf War Researchers both Civilian and VA. Much less having Civilian and VA Providers also involved fully in caring for Gulf War Veterans in these meetings. There is a need for these type meetings and these meetings should be open to veterans. These meetings also need videoconferencing live and archived and available openly on the internet!
So twenty years and veterans continue to suffer and true transparency and the best communication abilities are not the standard. VA action is what counts not words or empty long documents that were compiled to add confusion and more delay and denial!
