John Witherite Jr.,58,  Staff Sergeant, USMC, Desert Storm Veteran

EMERALD ISLE – John Calvin Witherite Jr., 58, of Emerald Isle, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Carteret General Hospital.A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Brooks Funeral Home with Chaplain Bob Caffin presiding.

He was born in Belfonte, Pa., on Feb. 6, 1952, to John Calvin and Elby June Martin Witherite. Mr. Witherite served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Gulf War and retired as a staff sergeant with more than 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Gail Witherite, preceded him in death.  Survivors include his wife, Goldy K. Burroughs Witherite of Emerald Isle; daughter, Jean Sisk and husband, Josh, of Wilmington; sons, John Witherite of Emerald Isle and James Witherite and wife, Cathleen, of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Sally Cameron and husband, Harold, of Port Matilda, Pa., Donna Martin and husband, James, of Coburn, Pa., Judy Ripka of Newport News, Va., Kathy McCormack and husband, Don, of Loganton, Pa., Beverly Whitman and husband, Kim, of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Nancy Reimer and husband, Richard, of Aaronsburg, Pa.; brother, Donald Witherite and wife, Nancy, of Spring Mills, Pa.; and grandson, Matthew James Witherite.
