Where’s The Beef

For seven long months now, fast food restaurants that are as American as mom, apple pie and the flag, have been banned from large American bases in Afghanistan. The former commander of America’s armed forces in that country, General Stanley McChrystal, stopped the supplies to Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut and other fast food providers because their supplies were taking up too much cargo space for combat essentials that were required for the 30,000 troop surge ordered by President Obama.

The 30,000 additional troops are now in-country with the much needed supplies they required, so the current leader, General David Petraeus, ordered that the fast food businesses be opened once again. General Petraeus was well aware of the moral factor for the troops in Afghanistan having the luxury of a “taste of home” so now our well deserving troops can have a Whopper, Foot Long or a Big Italy Pizza.

The fast food chains are all on the larger bases in Afghanistan but many of the American troops fighting the war are on the smaller outposts. What a treat for those troops stationed out in the boonies when they get a chance to go to Kandahar Air Base or other similar large military bases and be able to relax and get a taste of the good old USA! No mention was made of Wendy’s though, I can sure hear Ms. Clara Peller now: “Where’s the beef?”
