Today a true American is being put to rest beside his loving childhood love, his wife. Having met Senator Byrd, in my work on behalf of fellow gulf war veterans and having heard him speak at a veterans’ function years ago when he was awarded the outstanding Senator from that organization.
I want to say Gulf War Veterans lost a senator that stood up for the Gulf War Veterans sick with Gulf War illness and also their offspring that might be affected in the years into the future.
Senator Robert Byrd was truly one of a kind that we will not see again. A common man that believed in the constitution, citizen’s rights, and spoke thru his amazing voice until the end of his life.
I encourage you to go to C-Span and view and listen to his speeches they have captured. I encourage you to go to Thomas and search the Senate Record of what he said for the gulf war veterans.
His life was rich and full and the citizens of West Virginia kept sending him back to an elected position year after year. His life should be celebrated and his memories and words remembered forever.
I thank his family for supporting his service to this country that he loved.
No tribute can cover the depths of his contributions. His ability to keep history alive and share with all of us was truly inspiring. We should each thrive to have our fellow citizens listen to his speeches on the constitution and the history of America and what it takes every day to truly serve your country in an elected office. Take his words into your heart and soul.
It is not about party but about following the constitution and to each do your duty as citizens.
