Today, as the USA plays Ghana in the knockout round of the World Cup where the whole world is watching as the USA gains international prestige as a member of the world sports community, it strikes me extremely hard and reminds me how poorly we can act against our neighbors when we unleash dangerous lunatics like Gov. Jan Brewer who said yesterday that most illegal immigrants entering Arizona are being used to transport drugs across the border, an assertion that critics slammed as exaggerated and racist.

Yesterday, Brewer said the motivation of “a lot” of the illegal immigrants is to enter the United States to look for work, but that drug rings press them into duty as drug “mules.”

“I believe today, under the circumstances that we’re facing, that the majority of the illegal trespassers that are coming into the state of Arizona are under the direction and control of organized drug cartels and they are bringing drugs in,” Brewer said.

“There’s strong information to us that they come as illegal people wanting to come to work. Then they are accosted and they become subjects of the drug cartel,” she said.

Brewer’s office later issued a statement in response to media reports of her comments. It said most human smuggling into Arizona is under the direction of drug cartels, which “are by definition smuggling drugs.”

“Unless Gov. Brewer can provide hard data to substantiate her claim that most undocumented people crossing into Arizona are ‘drug mules,’ she must retract such an outrageous statement,” said Oscar Martinez, a University of Arizona history professor whose teaching and research focuses on border issues. “If she has no data and is just mouthing off for political reasons, as I believe she is doing, then she must apologize to the people of Arizona for lying to them so blatantly.”

‘Needy, humble people
Sen. Jesus Ramon Valdes, a member of the Mexican Senate’s northern border affairs commission, called Brewer’s comments racist and irresponsible.

To this writer, Gov. Brewer continues her shameful foolish attempt at leadership to misinform the vulnerable classes of our society that are hurting and looking for a way out from failures.

You know, we Americans are all working so hard to rebuild America back up from our collective failures.  We are doing that now worldwide and within the microcosm that is a sport, at the World Cup, we are part of a larger family.

To me, it is not helpful to our economy and our global ability to compete that Gov. Brewer uses her position to mask our lack of personal responsibility for what we’ve done to ourselves by scapegoating.

Consider our;

• 30 years of a “look the other way” law enforcement policy when it comes to immigration was and continues to be irresponsible.
• Personal drug addiction problem and blaming of all the world’s suppliers
• Degeneration of our family values where we don’t care for our elderly when they become unproductive and don’t fund our youth with the very best worldly education
• The degenerative loss of an independent mainstream media fills our airwaves with misinformation fueling ignorance as seen by the likes of the fake American Rupert “I am from Australia” Murdoch owning most of our airwaves.

We are the problem!  Not the needy job seekers who are being squeezed by our irresponsible pure drive for capitalism at any cost.

To me, what is sad is that we get this irresponsible speech from leaders like Gov. Brewer who wails her microphone-enhanced ignorance at our peoples with disdain and contempt for our tribe as work to find the true harmonic answers that will bring our peoples peace, harmony, and success.

In a few minutes here, the USA will play Ghana.  Oh wait, the USA National Anthem is playing and I see former USA President Bill Clinton on the pitch ready to support our hopes, aspirations, and national pride as the men in red, white, and blue take the field with great respect, class, and rigor.  And Gov. Brewer?  Not so much!  Adios Amiga! Go USA!

Punish was educated at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (1980-81) and California State University Fullerton (1981-1984) with studies in accounting and business. Before the “internets” had been invented, he owned and ran (5) national newspapers in the United States of America from 1987-1998.  From 2004 to 2023, he owned and managed VT Foreign Policy retiring at the end of 2023.

Punish is also a recording artist.  He has over 100 original songs written. He records and produces music. A member of ASCAP, Punish has several songs placed in feature films. His music is promoted worldwide and played on all digital networks and net radio.
