A leading national cheerleader for escalation in Afghanistan is Sussex, Wisconsin native Thomas Tradewell, Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) National Commander.
Tradewell is on the bleeding edge of public criticism that our military is leveling against its democratic commander-in-chief and Obama’s deliberation of the major foreign policy decision on Afghanistan and Pakistan that is coming soon.
Why does this guy working for a veterans’ service organization refrain from saying word one about the bullshit wars politicians make, and the middle-finger salute given to our veterans by the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs? Tell these guys that their emblems and conventions don’t mean much if they turn their backs on the grunts getting screwed.
From the Times report a couple of Mondays ago (Bumiller): "Last week the national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Thomas J. Tradewell Sr., gave voice to the concerns of those in the military when he issued a terse statement criticizing Mr. Obama’s review of Afghan war strategy. ‘The extremists are sensing weakness and indecision within the U.S. government, which plays into their hands,’ said Mr. Tradewell’s statement on behalf of his group, which represents 1.5 million former soldiers.
Weakness and indecision? Weakness and indecision is pissing on our veterans in pursuit of having your picture taken with politicians and eating cake. Where the hell were you the last eight years Tradewell, when the neocons virtually declared war on veterans seeking disability benefits while making two bullshit wars and paying off contractors making 10 times what a grunt makes?
Not one guy from the small United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC) Bar Association that I know has seen Tradewell doing shit to help veterans slog their way through the VA claims-denial process.
Tradewell knows about as much about foreign policy as he does about veterans’ advocacy: Nothing. His best bet is to keep his fucking mouth shut if refuses to engage the VA pissing on our veterans or the neocons calling for more victims of our troops.
Writes Tom Barnes in VT on the Pentagon hawks for whom Tradewell carries water, "The problem is that they are not members of a Roman Legion."
