Pattonville awards honorary diplomas to veterans

Charles Meyers, an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, graduated the same night as his grandson, Will Downey.

Dorothy Cody accepted a posthumous diploma for her husband, the late Robert Cody, who was a Navy veteran of World War II. The Codys’ grandson, Bryan Belter, graduated the same night.     

Pattonville High School honored several military veterans during its recent commencement ceremonies. On June 4, the district awarded three honorary high school diplomas to veterans who served during conflicts on foreign soil.

Pattonville is participating in a state program, "Operation Recognition," sponsored by the Missouri Veterans Commission and Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Jennifer Prather, who graduated June 4 with the Class of 2009, accepted a posthumous diploma for her grandfather, the late Orvil Summers, a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War.

The honorary graduates also received a medal from the school district and an American flag.
