kfmb-tv-Associated Press – FREMONT, Calif. (AP) – Local veterans will soon have access to medical and mental health services at a new Fremont clinic slated to open in January
The Department of Veterans Affairs has signed a lease on a 10,000-square-foot building that will house a clinic providing regular checkups, health screenings, referrals and some rehabilitation services. Veterans still would have to go to the department’s Livermore center for specialty care and to its Palo Alto hospital for surgery.
The department initially will staff the clinic with three doctors and three mental health professionals. It’s scheduled to open January 2010 and will serve the area until at least 2015.
VA officials are still considering where to build a permanent new medical center in the East Bay. A decision on the location is expected later this year.
