TILTON, N.H.—Pressurized propane spewed into the air outside the New Hampshire Veterans Home on Monday, but no one was injured and the fire department quickly got things under control.

Tilton-Northfield Fire Chief Stephen Carrier tells The Citizen that a back-loader caused the leak by backing into a tank cover and shearing a pipe. Officials temporarily evacated the home’s kitchen and nearby living space.

Firefighters used a fire hose to disperse the fumes while they located the leak, which they stopped by closing a valve.

Carrier says firefighters used detection equipment to ensure that no fumes got inside before sounding the all-clear.
