Claremont County, OH.
This weekend, veterans are honoring veterans with a welcome home celebration. Families of service men and women can get together and share their experiences through the area. There is a Clermont County organization that answers fellow soldiers’ calls every day and it is a sponsor of the festivities.
"They know exactly what needs to be done to assist a veteran in the most efficient and productive way, because it is a confusing process. There’s a tremendous amount of red tape and again, one of the benefits of this type of office…this office [knows] how to deal with the red tape", Danny Bare comes from a family rich with military history. His grandfather served in World War I, and a member of the family in every war since
And when the country called on him for his service, he answered proudly, "I was drafted and I served from March of ’68 to March of ’69 in Vietnam."
Now 40 years later, he answered the call again, but for those of veterans and current troops.
"When the opportunity presented, itself I jumped all over it. This is not a job, this is a passion with me."
He is the executive director of the Clermont County Veterans’ Services Commission in Batavia. It offers many services like transportation to and from the V.A. Hospital, and emergency financial support for veterans, troops and their families during a time of need.
There is an office in every county in Ohio. And it is the only place that can offer a certified veteran service officer. They know the ropes in a messy governmental process and can streamline a veterans application.
