Hearts and Minds, the DOD at War with the Truth

BY G. DUFF

For the past few years, most of us have gotten emails from the service organizations or other sources telling stories about how we save kids, rebuilt mosques and do little but good in whatever hell hole we are killing people in.  Truth is, Americans really are good people and have always helped others, be it Korea, Germany, Japan, Kosovo and even Iraq.

The problem is, when the government manufactures these stories in order to support political agendas and, in reality create a lie.  When a war, like the war in Iraq, is a war started by a an extremist faction of one political party using lies and propaganda for profit, any attempt to justify a war thru "hearts and minds" stories is a form of politicization of the military.

It is bad enough that our own military is subjected to constant brainwashing from Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and the phony Pentagon Channel with 24 hours a day of Draft Dodger Cheney/Bush photo opporunities, without sending lifers on a tour of the US with more bull.  Call this Swift Boat 2.

With very few Americans supporting an immoral war started thru lies and supported by oil theft and corporate greed, efforts to build a political base for military action by working directly with our electorate is unAmerican and clearly unconstitutional.  These aren't World War 2 bond drives we are seeing.  It is our own troops, carefully selected for their willingness to sell their honor, touring America while their buddies are dying in combat, vicitms of the lies and propaganda spewed by these worms in uniform.

Let these fools and liars visit the warehouses of the crippled at Walter Reed or explain to the unemployed and homeless vets how the war is going.  Let them talk to vets waiting months for doctors appointments and years for disability compensation.

Let them meet with the thousands of vets who have lost their jobs, more broken promises by the Bush Administration.

No Marine I served with in Vietnam would ever agree to go on the Richard Nixon "pro war" tour.  Any one of us would have died first.

It's time that these self serving "tame" warriors stopped wasting tax payer money and funds that should be buying decent body armor for their friends in real combat and got their financing from the war profiteers who are their actual masters.

For years, the media did little but publish everything the military fed them with their "embedded" reporters taking what was given them and asking few questions.  The idea that the military has to "get the word out" because the press has been hostile is a vicious lie.

Simply put, nobody want to hear any more stories about Weapons of Mass Destruction.  I keep remembering BushieBoy and his "Mission Accomplished sign.

Perhaps we might find this sign, or what is left of it, do some cutting, rolling, apply some epoxy and use it to insert some backbone where needed here at home.

Perhaps our touring "heroes" could make it down to Congress or the local country club and ask one or two of our leaders why they don't have their own children serving.

I am sick of seeing an administration of pure chickenhawks try another of their lame attempts to make fools of us all again.
